Cortana, your new favorite virtual assistant, can warn users of conflicts when they add events or remind them of tasks they need to do, and she can do all of that by either phone, chat or email. Cortana is among the new features coming to a Windows phone update called 8.1 which will be available on new phones in about a month and will be available as an update on existing phones a few months later. Also included in the new 8.1 is a new Actions Center. The Action Center will be a hub for app notification and general info about the phone, including things like remaining battery life. In addition to its new software, Window phone will also start connecting automatically to free Wi-Fi hots spots, allowing customers to save on cellular data.
