Interactive Brokers announced Thursday that it will offer retail trading customers a way to avoid high frequency traders. The broker dealer announced its new trading platform IEX. IEX, which is expected to be available in 5 to 10 days, is designed to resist the techniques of high-frequency traders. Using longer cable lengths to slow down some transactions and rules that will limit the number of complex order types, the platform will encourage more equitable trading for all. Interactive Brokers’ new platform will also allow customers the choice of which system they would like to use to execute their trades. Customers will have a choice to either allow the company’s smart router to decide which exchange to execute an order or they can specify IEX.
